Trip Planning for 2009
![]()
As I start to look towards the new year—my first year in a job with a regular schedule and holidays off and no more school work (and also my first year living on the economy with quite a few bills to pay)—I start to think about what trips I’m going to take now that I have a bit more time and freedom.
I had forgotten how fun and exciting trip planning can be—searching on-line and through books for ideas on where to go and what to do when I get there. Dreaming and budgeting and searching for trips by myself, trips with friends and trips home.
Recently, I published an article with some “non-traditional” tips on planning a trip including reading fictional books (or memoirs) and watching movies set in your destination before leaving. That’s something I’ve always enjoyed doing, but I haven’t always made the effort. I am often too caught up in the logistical planning to take the time to find a book that fits what I’m looking for and actually enjoy it. That’s going to change as I plan for my trips this year, though!
I’ve already started my list of trips for 2009 and have Barcelona, Morocco and Cologne already lined up. It’s time to start planning those—and I know I’ll enjoy every minute.
