Expensive (Ordinary) Meals from Around the World

I’m a big fan of food—especially when I travel. Food plays an important role in a culture, food signifies a country’s natural resources and wealth, and, well, food tastes good. I’ve had crocodile in Kenya, rotten shark in Iceland, and ceviche in Peru, but food doesn’t always need to be exotic to be good and worthwhile when traveling. I’ve also had some delicious “ordinary” foods like macaroni and cheese in Italy, fish and chips in England, and a good ol’ juicy cheeseburger in Wisconsin.
That’s what makes the BootsNAll article by Jessica Spiegel called “11 of the World’s Most Expensive Ordinary Meals” so interesting—she’s found meals like a $1,000 brownie, a slice of savory pie for £1,000, and a $1,000 pizza.
I’ve had some expensive meals in my day and they were all certainly worth it, so I’m sure these foods are tasty, but I’m not sure I could ever spend $1,000 on an ice cream sundae…
