Traveling Tip: Choosing an All-Inclusive Vacation Package

Yesterday, I shared some advantages and disadvantages to traveling on an all-inclusive vacation package—depending on how much time you have, where you want to go, and the type of vacation you’re looking for (relaxing vs. visiting attractions, luxury vs. local), traveling on an all-inclusive vacation package can make for an ideal trip.
If you’re considering an all-inclusive package for your next trip, be sure to ask yourself the following questions:
-
What is your budget for the trip? How much would it cost to pay for hotel, flight, and food separately?
-
Do you have the time necessary to research hotels, flights, restaurants, and tour companies?
-
What do you plan on doing during your vacation?
-
How do you feel about eating similar meals every day?
-
How do you feel about spending more money for some variety? (Paying for a dinner out, even though you’ve already “paid” for it or even traveling to a different city.)
When researching potential deals, always:
-
Look for hotel reviews written by previous guests—they’ll give you an honest opinion of the rooms, the food, the amenities, and will help you determine if staying there is worth it. Try TripAdvisor or just search for the hotel name and “review”. (Keep in mind that opinions always vary, so read more than one before making a decision.)
-
Do a few quick searches for flights, hotels, and restaurants separately to gauge approximate costs.
-
Go to the hotel’s website and examine what amenities are offered. Do they offer kids’ activities? Is there a beach nearby? Is there an on-site spa? Are day tours available?
-
Research transportation options in the town if you’re considering leaving. (We had a package to Agadir, Morocco, but took a bus to Marrakesh for two nights.)
-
Be sure you understand what is included in the package. Alcoholic drinks? Non-alcoholic drinks? Do you have restaurant choices within the resort? Are you guaranteed a good view?
All-inclusive vacations are an excellent vacation choice…if you have a good hotel, find the deal worth it, and it’s the type of vacation you’re looking for. Do the research first.
