Published by Journeys and Adventures at 10:01 am under Germany, Travel News Edit This

Baden Baden KurhausAfter an intense summit with the G20 leaders in London, breakfast with the French President in Strasbourg, and lunch with the German Prime Minister, U.S. President Barrack Obama and his wife, Michelle, are going to take a much-needed break in the resort town of Baden-Baden, a popular destination in Germany’s Black Forest today, Friday, April 3rd.  Baden-Baden is the ideal place for anyone to treat themselves and enjoy a peaceful environment–especially if you’re the President of the United States.

More on the town

The name of this small town nestled in the Black Forest translates to “bathe/bathe,” so it’ no surprise that spas, saunas, and mineral waters are the main focus of this town.  The town has been around since the 14th century and ruins of “The Old Castle” (the inhabitants moved to the New Castle in 1479) are still visibleon a hill above the town.  Its double anme was first used in 1931 to distinguish the town from other cities named Baden in Germany and refers to the city of Baden in the state of Baden (since the town is located in Baden-Württemburg).

Attractions

Baden Baden FriedrichsbadFriedrichsbad—This spa has been around for more than 125 years providing a combination of Roman and Irish bathing traditions.  There’s a seventeen-step ritual for guests to follow and includes saunas at various temperatures, hot tubs, a body scrub, and a cold water dunk.  (It feels great, I assure you.)

Kurhaus—Built between 1821 and 1824, the Kurhaus (which usually refers to a spa or meeting rooms) offers rooms for meetings and other celebrations.  An exquisite restaurant, groomed gardens, a colonnade with boutiques, and a stage for the orchestra make it a popular attraction.

Casino—Of course, what better activity for the evening after a day at the spa then heading to a 250-year-old casino to play table games, slot machines, and win some money?

Hotel

Baden Baden Brenner’s Park Hotel for Obama   President Obama and his wife are rumored to be staying at the elegant Brenner’s Park Hotel, which has won several prestigious awards including a Five Star Diamond Award and several Reader’s Choice awards from SpaFinder.  Known for its exceptional service, the hotel offers a luxurious spa complex with massages and treatments available, exquisite dining, and large rooms decorated traditionally with antique furniture.

Don’t think the €1375 per night suite is in your budget?  Consider the Best Western Queens Hotel in Baden Baden for only $128 per night.

Other Presidential Trivia

Former U.S. President Bill Clinton is believe to have said, “Baden-Baden is so nice they had to name it twice.”  What will Barrack Obama say after his stay?
