Traveler Reviews

lonely-planet-logo.gif

I base many of my decisions on the reviews of others—before making a hotel reservation, I see what previous guests said on Tripadvisor, Venere, or Hotels.com.  I read forums and articles and advice columns before deciding on an itinerary and which sites to see.  And, of course, I check out restaurant reviews when making a list of delicious meals to look forward to.

I know from my experience in the hospitality industry, however, that sometimes these reviews and opinions can be somewhat biased, so hopefully there are several well-detailed reviews for me to make an educated decision.

Despite this, I admit that I’m not very good at submitting my own reviews after a stay, meal, or visit.  That’s why Lonely Planet’s new giveaway is a great incentive for someone like me:

Write a restaurant review and win!

Where have you wined and dined lately? Was it top-shelf?  Or were you less than impressed?  Posta  review of any restaurant or café on our website and you’ll be in the running for some great prizes including iPods, Nintendo Wiis, Canon cameras, iTunes gift cards and more.  We’re awarding a different prize every day, so shake off your napkin get writing.

How to enter:

1.       Visit Lonely Planet, go to a town or city and look for the “Restaurants” link.

2.       Select a restaurant and click on the “Write a review” button.

3.       Submit your review and you’re instantly in the running to win!

Don’t forget restaurants in your own hometown!  Even though it’s right down the street for you, visitors will want to know what it’s like.

My Amigos–A Traveler’s Video

Hostelworld, a useful website for anyone looking to make cheap accommodation reservations anywhere in the world, recently began offering city guides on video through their website (“What not to miss in Perth” and “10 Things You Need to Know About Dublin are examples)—in addition to the free pocket guides and podcasts the website already offered.

To celebrate the launch of the new guides, Hostelworld offered a competition for readers to create and submit their own videos about backpacking for a chance to win a Round-the-World trip.  While it’s always difficult to judge a competition of this nature, Grace Conlan and her video My Amigos was the winner.  With an original song that captures some of the best parts of traveling—the fun times with the friends you make—the video shows just how wonderful traveling can be.

Enjoy!
