Journey to the Center of the Earth

journey-to-the-center-of-the-earth.jpg

My boyfriend and I recently watched Journey to the Center of the Earth, a fun young adult adventure into the “center of the Earth” starring Brendan Fraser.  I admittedly have never read the Jules Verne novel on which this movie is based, but the movie inspired me to search for it at my library and add it to my “to read” list (which is always getting longer and longer, never shorter).  Who doesn’t like an adventure to an unknown world with interesting animals, vivid sites, and beautiful scenery?  Who doesn’t like having their imagination ignited?  And who doesn’t like that sense of wonder that children so amazingly bring to the world around them?

One of the first aspects of the film that caught my attention was their trip to Iceland—one of my favorite destinations.  I’m a fan of movies as a way to plan your travels, get ideas for possible destinations (another list that keeps getting longer and longer, never shorter), and fulfill one’s sense of adventure without leaving their own living room or spending more than $3 on a rental movie, but Iceland isn’t often featured in movies.  The colorful shots of the imposing mountains and eruptive geysers brought back wonderful memories of an amazing journey into a not-so-often-visited location.  I love those memories.
