In A Sunburned Country by Bill Bryson–As one of the most famous travel writers of all-time, Bill Bryson is known for his humorous adventures around the world. In this book, he explores Australia—its’ history, its’ animals, and its’ people. As always, his comedic tone keeps readers engaged and teaches them a thing or two about the sharks, kangaroos, and dogs, the accents, his travel companions and other friends on the road, and the island’s history. Tracks by Robyn Davidson—Tracks, written by Robyn Davidson in the late 70s and published in 1980, follows the author’s journey across 1,700 miles of Australian outback with her camels. The book is subtitled, “A Woman’s Solo Trek Across 1,700 Miles of Australian Outback,” and describes just how Davidson made it across the desert with just four camels, a dog, and some self-doubt and introspection. Reading a review of the book Tracks will reveal a bit more. (Contribution from Andrea Beca.)
