Travel Books about England and the United Kingdom
Looking for a United Kingdom travel book?
Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling–Although visitors to England are probably not visiting Hogwarts or taking any of the available Harry Potter tours unless they’ve already read this extremely popular series of books, it has become a major part of English tourism, so deserves to be mentioned here. Between the Reptile House in the London Zoo and Oxford University which provided Hogwarts scenery for the movies, fans of Harry Potter have recently flocked to England for vacations. Channel Islands
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows–Through a series of letters, diary entries, and telegrams between London and the Guernsey Islands, this book explores the effects of friendship and books in the Guernsey Islands during World War II. The islands serve as a vivid backdrop for the touching and revealing story. Finding Friendship and Escape–A Book Review describes more about the book. (Contribution from Journeys and Adventures.)
London
Imagined London: A Tour of the World’s Greatest Fictional City by Anna Quindlen–After years of reading books by Charles Dickens, Virginia Woolf, and other English authors, Quindlen finally makes the trip to London and discovers how the city measures up to her imagined literary world.
